Funding is available for projects that undertake environmental improvement and have a direct impact on reducing crime and anti-social behaviour, reducing the fear of crime and improving the general safety of our communities. Closing date for applications is 4.00pm on Friday 28th September 2007.

The deadline for Applications to Ards Arts Committee Small Grants Fund has been extended by two weeks, until September 14th. Application forms can be obtained from Ards Arts Centre, Town Hall, Conway Square, Newtownards.
A limited number of Grants, of £250, are available in this round of funding and applications will be assessed by the Ards Arts Committee.

Local Fitness experts Aaron Bell and Thomas Simmons, of Comber Leisure Centre, successfully competed in the tough, international ‘Ironman’ competition, held in Austria earlier this month.
Thomas and Aaron were the first competitors from Newtownards to enter and had finishing times within an exceptional 1 hour 44 minutes, and 3 hours 41 minutes (respectively), behind the overall winner; a professional athlete who in turn, was first out of 2,500 competitors, from 44 countries!

Northern Ireland Goes Smoke Free on 30th April 2007.
From 30th April 2007, it will be against the law to smoke in most indoor places other than your own private home.
This will include:
• Places of work e.g. offices, factories, bars, restaurants, cafes, & hotels
• Schools
• Hospitals
• Places used by members of the public, e.g. shopping centres, church/community halls and health centres
Most vehicles used for work purposes and vehicles used to carry members of the public, will also have to be smoke-free.
