Comber Library Is Presented With A Cheque From The Rotary Club Of Comber

Comber Library was delighted to receive a cheque from the Rotary Club of Comber on Tuesday 19 June. The cheque was presented by the Rotarians President, Mr Duggie Anderson. The Chief Librarian, Mrs Beth Porter, Front Line Services Manager, Mrs Norma Miller and Mr Ken Brundle , President Elect of the Rotary Club of Comber attended the presentation. Mrs Porter commented "We really appreciate this generous gift from the Rotary Club of Comber and assure the members that it will help us purchase much needed language materials."

The funding from the Rotary Club will be used to buy extra language courses to help Russian, Polish, Lithuanian and Latvian speakers improve their English Language skills. The Library Service currently offers a range of magazines and newspapers in foreign languages. Books in Polish, Lithuanian and Chinese are available on request and library members can borrow these free of charge.

Branch Library Manager Geraldine McGrattan said "We already offer newspapers and magazines in other languages and now we are delighted to be able to buy language courses to help Russian, Polish, Lithuanian and Latvian library users improve their English language skills.

Rotary President, Duggie Anderson commented “ We are very pleased to offer some positive help to people from other countries who have chosen to live and work in the Comber area, earlier in the year Jim Murdock, the “Good Relations Officer” of Ards Borough Council spoke to club members at one of our meetings in Balloo House outlining the work of the Ards Intercultural Forum and we felt that the club should contribute to welcoming migrants to our community”.
