The vision for Comber is to regenerate the town both physically and economically for the benefit of its inhabitants and visitors, by seeking to enhance community spirit and promote the fullest participation of its people, and their Government, in the process. It seeks to safeguard the town’s existing scale and character by encouraging a more controlled approach to future development, to create a coherency between the existing and new built environments. Capitalising upon the town’s inherent character and strategic position, close to local environmental and heritage attractions, to attract seasonal tourists to diversify its role as a commuter town is key.
Comber 2015
For The Residents
“Comber has finally had its heart transplant with the new focus of activity around the Square. All ages seem to meet there to catch up on local news or watch the world go by. The new housing and businesses have reinvigorated the town and offer people more variety of choice. Fewer people now travel out of the town to work and a renewed civic pride and sense of ownership is present. Education and health services are continuing to improve in quality. Comber will win next years floral display competition. Comber is undoubtedly a town where people chose quality of life.”
For The Visitors
“On your circular tour of Strangford Lough visit Comber, a cycle friendly town that entices the visitor to want to stop off. Have a coffee at the Square, indoors or outdoors, before visiting our many heritage buildings, farmers markets or specialist retail outlets. Sit outside and view the sensitively restored buildings before travelling on to soak up the rich natural beauty where land meets water and ruins nestle amidst areas of wildlife and beauty.”
