
George Robinson from Castle Lane, received an MBE for services to the Royal British Legion, 88 year old Mr Robinson was a draughtsman in Harland and Wolff before joining the Merchant Navy in 1941, married in 1944, and after the war returned to Harland and Wolff as engineer and eventually retired in 1982.
Mr Robinson has held many office in the legion including, Chairman and treasurer, and has been instrumental in the Services Committee in the Comber district, raising over £30,000 this year with the Poppy Fund.
Also honoured this year was Mr Thomas Rodgers of Killinchy Street, he received his MBE for his services to the homeless , Mr Rodgers is the Chairman of the Simon Community Northern Ireland Corporate Committee, initially becoming involved with the Simon Community whilst serving as President of the Belfast Chamber of Trade.
