Ards Investment Drive

A drive to promote Ards as a real proposition for investment and business development will stretch from Ballystockart to Berlin with the beginning of a new programme to highlight the region to both local and foreign investors.

Details of the new promotional programme, which includes a range of initiatives not only to raise awareness of the Ards but also to lobby for direct investment, have been announced by Chair of Ards Borough Council’s Development Committee, Alderman George Ennis:

“From Berlin, where nearly 400 pharmaceutical companies will be present in November 2006 seeking locations to expand their businesses, to Portaferry, where we will host a specialist conference on eco tourism in May 2007, this programme aims to deliver the message that Ards is a high quality investment proposition,” he said. “Working with willing, innovative partners in local industry and with the support of Invest Northern Ireland, North Down and Ards Institute, Ards Business Centre and Bangor’s Signal Growth Centre, we have a range of targeted promotional campaigns at home and abroad to put Ards first in terms of awareness and investment choice.”

A joint promotional campaign in the magazine, Corporate Northern Ireland, which is linked to 80,000 company owners in the United Kingdom and Ireland, and the preparation of investment packs to be used by existing, growing businesses, such as TG Eakin and Co based at Ballystockart, Comber, are also part of the planned programme.

In addition, the Council’s Development Committee has also commenced work on increasing the opportunities available for retail, commercial and manufacturing investment in various towns and villages across the Ards and has proposed the establishment of an Investment Company for Newtownards itself through joint working with Newtownards Chamber of Trade and Ards Shopping Centre.

“Investors are willing to develop jobs and businesses in Ards,” said Derek McCallan, the Council’s Director of Development. “This drive is help ensure that they have the information and the people they need to make Ards their location of choice”.

Anyone who would like further information about the investment initiative in Ards should contact Derek McCallan, Director of Development at Ards Borough Council on 028 9182 4065.
