The search has begun for the Northern Ireland Young Musician of the Year 2007, organised by Comber Rotary Club and sponsored by Matchetts Music of Belfast.
Launching the event, Club President Duggie Anderson said: “As well as providing a platform for young musicians to gain competition experience, the event is a great opportunity for Comber Rotary Club to show its commitment to two major local charities – the NI Cancer Fund for Children and the NI Music Therapy Trust.
The competition is open to all Northern Ireland based solo instrumentalists aged 12 to 16 inclusive and singers aged 12 to 18 inclusive. Entrants will appear in three heats in Comber on February 26, 27, 28. The adjudicator will select the best performers to appear in the Final on Saturday March 3.
Tamara Jackson of Matchetts Music commented: “We are very pleased to be involved again with the NI Young Musician of the Year competition and wish both the competitors and the members of Comber Rotary Club every success in the 2007 event.”
The winner’s prize will be £250 in Matchetts vouchers and an engraved Tyrone Crystal trophy. All finalists will receive certificates. The BBC’s senior music producer Simon Taylor, who will again be adjudicating the Final, said: “The 2006 event displayed a truly impressive range of musical talent. All ambitious young players and singers need experience of performing solo in public. This well-established and widely recognised event gives them the ideal opportunity. I encourage as many as possible to enter.”
Entry forms and rules have been sent to all second-level schools and colleges, to music shops and to part-time music teachers throughout the Province.
